“The ground we walk on, the plants and creatures, the clouds above constantly dissolving into new formations–each gift of nature possessing its own radiant energy, bound together by cosmic harmony.”—Ruth Bernhard
Humans are part of nature. An imbalance in our relationship with it can cost us a lot at many levels: health, state of mind, well-being, mood…
Walking in nature daily will enhance our mood and boost our immune system. Enough sunlight will contribute to these benefits. The fresh air we breathe will be helpful to our lungs and brains.
Beginners can start with a morning walk of fifteen minutes. They can increase this time later, depending on their desire and capacity.
Walking in nature allows us to reconnect with our source and somehow realigns us with life. We are far away from modern life; the natural sounds of leaves, insects, birds, and other animals soothe our minds and fill us with a sense of joy and well-being.
To maximize our walk, we need to truly experience our surroundings. Our focus must be gentle and dispassionate. We must accept each object we encounter in its entirety and see it as it really is. Every tree and bird we see must be recognized. We must acknowledge their intrinsic beauty and value: no judgment, no comparison with other plants or animals—just being present and available for them, in the present moment.
A short walk allows us to take purifying breaths and enhances our sense of well-being. It can, most of all, connect us with nature, our real source. Direct encounters with nature must be valued and sought after. They guarantee a healthier body and a happier state of mind.
“A walk in nature walks the soul back home.”—Mary Davis
